“I’ve often told my family that when I bury Sophie, they’re going to have to bury me with her. I just can’t imagine living without her. Because of ERDF I don’t have to. Sophie was able to get the immediate care she needed and I know we will be able to share many more years of joy and cuddling. Thank you to every one of you that donates to help make that possible.”
Sophie’s Mom

Sophie S

Sophie was3 months old when she became a part of my life, a present I gave myself for my 70th birthday. What an energetic little ball of fluff in comparison to my 15 year old shih-tzu with congestive heart failure who would cross the rainbow bridge that September.

My life has always been better because dogs have been in it.  Sophie especially. I think that’s because I was already retired when I got her so we became incredibly bonded. We do everything together!

I can’t imagine living without Sophie. Her personality and energy fill my heart and home with love, joy and excitement. She loves food, people, cuddling up in bed with me at night, chasing squirrels and chipmunks in the yard, and is my constant gardening companion. She’s perfect!!!!

When I noticed some excessive drinking and accidents in the house, I scheduled an appointment with her v

et for some testing. It took a while to get in because of COVID.   I was shocked to learn thatSophie, at age 8, was facing a medical emergency!  She was suffering from Diabetic Ketoacidosis which can be fatal. Living on a fixed income I immediately wondered how I was going to pay for her emergency room and inpatient care.

I can’t begin to tell you how relieved I was to discover that Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund would make sure that my baby would have a fighting chance to get medically stabilized

Sophie spent 2 ½ days in two hospital ICUs and luckily made great progress during her stay. I am still struggling to get her insulin regulated, but Sophie and I quickly conquered the feeding schedules and insulin injections. She even seems to look forward to the injections because of our sweet cuddling afterwards. Knowing that diabetes is a treatable disease gives me comfort and hope.

I’ve often told my family that when I bury Sophie, they’re going to have to bury me with her. I just can’t imagine living without her. Because of ERDF I don’t have to. Sophie was able to get the immediate care she needed and I know we will be able to share many more years of joy and cuddling.

Thank you to every one of you that donates to help make that possible.
