Runner’s Love Story

"Thanks to you, he was able to have the special medication that brought our boy back to life.  He is home now, chasing his ball across the floor and growling at it all the way.  Snuggling with the kids.  Bringing us so much joy again every day.  We couldn’t imagine our lives without Runner.  And thanks to you, we don’t have to.  We will be forever grateful."  –Runner’s Family

Part of the responsibilities of getting a new family member are to vaccinate them and see that they are prepared to grow into healthy adults.  That is just what we did to protect the 5-month-old puppy my 2 and 3-year-old toddlers adore!

So why was our pup-- who had been playing hard with his favorite squeaky toy and going crazy for his ball-- now lying in his kennel refusing to move?  He had NEVER  not come bounding out of his crate to take on the morning.

When my 3-year-old had met our boy, he immediately named him Runner.  That fit so well.  Up until that awful morning, that was how he always moved—at a run.

But that morning, he wasn’t moving.  We immediately rushed him to the vet.  They noted his labored breathing and discovered he had fluid built up in his chest.  After a series of tests, it was discovered he was suffering from an Immune Mediated Disease that was caused by his rabies vaccination!

We are a blue collar working family who lives on a farm.  Taking good care of our healthy young dog had all of a sudden gotten us into a very expensive journey.  Every day that Runner was in the hospital, my kids constantly asked when he was coming home.  We had run out of money to keep him in the ICU.  And he wasn’t getting any better.

We didn’t think we were going to get to bring him home.
