I prayed so hard to be spared the loss of my baby. And there you were. Strangers who are so compassionate that you spared me from heartbreak. I will be forever grateful to you.
I don’t think I would have made it through another loss.
It all started just over 2 years ago when my brother committed suicide. It devastated us all, but especially my Mom. She cried for eight months, culminating in her suffering a stroke. While she was in the hospital, my brother’s widow burned Mom’s house down. When Mom was released, she could not care for herself so she came to live with me. I worked hard for the next year and a half to take care of her. I already suffer from depression, so when she died, I slid really deep into depression. It was just one loss too many, you know?
Thank God for Belle. If I didn’t have her, I would be all alone.
Everyone loves Belle. And Belle loves everyone. She never got the memo that’s she’s a pitbull. Thankfully, no one ever told her about the stereotypes of her breed.
But I knew she’d be subjected to them. So, I trained her right from the start (even her little 5-week-old self) to sit and wait to be invited to go over to greet the people. No matter how anxious she was to show them some love.
When you visit my house, she’ll come over and sit and wait. If you ignore her, she’ll gently tap you with her paw.
I noticed a lump on her leg, and it was causing her pain. It was cancer. Because of its location, my girl needed to have her leg amputated. I knew it was going to be something vital but expensive. Due to health issues, I can’t presently work, and after taking care of my mom, my health issues are worse. I haven’t yet been approved for disability. So, I had no way to pay for surgery. I just couldn’t fathom losing her. She was the only one I had left.

Oh, and by-the-way, the staff at Medvet said to say thank you from them as well. Belle maintained her “I don’t know a stranger” attitude there too. In fact, before her surgery, she crawled into the anesthesiologist’s lap—I believe to thank her because she knew the doc was helping to save her life. The surgeon said that when they were putting Belle under, the last thing to move was her tail. ALL of the staff was really rooting for her.
