Thank goodness for Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund.  I don’t have the words to express how grateful I am.  I’m beside myself every time I think of what you did for me and Sophie.  Next Fall, when Sophie puts on her Ohio State garb helps me cheer them to victory, I’ll have you Dr. Goss to thank.

Sophie G.

My Sophie is everything to me. She’s been the anchor for three different families”all of us œmature women who needed a best friend” in her 8 years of life. Her first owner was an elderly lady who had to give her up to a shelter. Her second was a disabled neighbor of mine here in our senior apartments who got sick and could no longer care for her. I’d been walking her twice a day for my neighbor. EVERYONE in the building knows Sophie lots of folks came out to greet her (me!) every day. No one wanted her to leave but no one would take her either.  I had lost my cat 7 months earlier and I was lonely. So when my neighbor’s family didn’t want Sophie, she moved in with me.

I look back on it now and wonder œwho rescued who! I have MS so I don’t get out unless someone comes to get me. Sophie is such great company! She’s always laying at my feet to œguard me, especially if there’s a man around. Somewhere in her past there must have been some trouble there.

But nothing seems to bother her now. She’ll let me do anything to her. When she became diabetic, I was worried with my limitations that I wouldn’t be able to give her her shots. But my wonderful vet Dr. Goss helped me figure it out. And do you know, that dog comes right to position to wait for her insulin twice a day like clockwork! And when she developed cataracts last year and went blind, she even took that in stride. As long as I don’t get a longing to rearrange the furniture, all is well.

When she developed bladder stones, she was in so much pain. Because of her diabetes we couldn’t try switching to special food that might have helped them to go away. It had been a struggle to find a balance of food/insulin to keep her stable. I couldn’t imagine losing her. She’s a Lhasa Apso so she should still have many years left. But with my fixed income, I couldn’t afford the surgery. Affording the insulin is hard enough.
