Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund provided funding for the extensive treatment Molly needed to remove her teeth and save her life.

Our Molly is a 3.5 pound, toothless guard dog. Sure, she’s small”try to tell her that! And true, she no longer has any teeth”thanks to the surgery of Dr. Crocker at Bigger Road Veterinary Clinic, the initial exam and referral from SICSA Pet Adoption Center, and the funding from Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund. But if she thinks anyone is going to mess with her people, she gets her ferocious on.

We found Molly at 6am one day when I was taking my son to catch his school bus. We looked over there she was all dirty huddled on the side of the road. I told my son we’d better grab her before she got hit.

She had so much trouble eating she smelled awful. We kept giving her baths but it didn’t help. Then we realized¦the stink was coming from her mouth! If we even got her saliva on us, WE stunk too!

I took her to a vet who said she wasn’t chipped. He also said she looked old her mouth was awful so she’d just cost us money probably wouldn’t live long. But there was something about that girl. We had to take a chance on her.

Desperate to find assistance to help me take care of this sweet girl, I reached out to the SICSA Pet Adoption Center for veterinary assistance. They checked her out but said her mouth was so bad that she needed a specialist. That’s very expensive. So that’s when they connected me with Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund.

Her teeth were rotten and her jaw in the front had even separated. The blood work before her mouth surgery looked pretty bad and Dr. Crocker, the dental vet, was afraid her internal organs were damaged from prolonged infection in her mouth. He removed ALL her teeth. I never knew a dog can do just fine with no teeth!

Now that the infection has cleared up, her energy is up. She’s gained some weight. She eats EVERYTHING. She even steals her 58 pound sister’s hard kibble.

And she’s taken on the dual rolls of family protector AND family cuddler. Whenever my son or my mom is around, she doesn’t let them out of her sight. Everyone who comes to visit wants to hold her. Even my brother who can’t have a dog smiles and scoops her into his arms. And if she sees her coat come out, she’s right at the door ready. That dog will ride anywhere! She makes us laugh gives us joy. She’s brought the whole family closer.

With working and going to school and raising a teenage son, my life gets hectic. Molly provides our family with the happiness, peace and tranquility we hadn’t even realized we were missing. Now I can’t imagine life without her.

Thank you Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund. If you hadn’t been here to provide the funds for such extensive treatment, Molly wouldn’t be here today. Because of you we have our girl and our lives are so much fuller!
