Lola's Love Story

My girl is back thanks to Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund. She is back to being the social butterfly that goes to greet everyone. (You know, she would lick a burglar to death if one broke in J). She is back to howling with the tornado sirens and asking me to scratch her floppy ears. If you’re a supporter of Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund, thank you for returning Lola’s quality of life and for keeping us able to be the playful, cuddly dog family that every day brings us all joy.
A Message from Lola's Dad
I’m really into music and dogs. So when I got my sweet little Beagle puppy five years ago, it seemed only natural to call her Lola, after one of my favorite Kinks songs.
Lola has been the girl (dog) of my dreams. She’s loyal and loving and she always wants to be near me. Last January when I got laid off and my new job required me to move here, three hours away from all my family and friends, she was the only thing that kept me sane.
So when she came back in last December from going potty, jumped onto the couch to lean on me, and then cried out when I later lifted her down, I was really concerned! Every time I tried to pick her up, she yelped again.
She walked into her vet visit, sat down, and never got up again. One day she was racing around and being crazy. Then the next, she couldn’t walk.
It turned out she had a herniated disc that was pressing on her spinal cord. The cost of the surgery was shocking but I certainly couldn’t walk away. So I maxed out my credit card and overdrafted my bank account.
But five months later, she still couldn’t walk! I was heartbroken—for her and for me.

I reached out to the surgeon for help. They suggested a wheelchair but I just couldn’t afford anything else.
Enter Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund. Now Lola has a set of custom wheels! It took her a little time to adjust but last week Lola ran over to my girlfriend and her son—her first mobile greeting of anyone since last December. We all got the biggest smiles you’ll ever see.
