Thanks to you, the love of my life is getting great treatment. She’s now doing rehab and underwater treadmill. She’s started using all four legs! I have high hopes she will someday compete again.
I lost 10 days. That’s how long I was in a coma after the car accident.
I had a ruptured spleen, collapsed lung, brain bleed, humerus break, radial nerve damage, facial fracture, and fractured eight ribs. Era, my beloved 11-month-old Border Collie, suffered a fractured spine and a high-velocity disc rupture. Because of that she had no use of her right rear leg.
When I regained consciousness at the hospital, my first communication was asking about Era. Hearing what had happened to her was the first time I cried.
Until the accident, she had lived to run agility and herd sheep. She also adored leaping for her frisbee and dock diving. Now, she could barely drag herself along.
My girl has always been strong-willed and independent. She would find a stick to carry proudly when she went on walks. When another dog went by, she’d show it to them and run off before they could touch it. When she got curious about my chewing gum, she actually stole it out of my mouth! She knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to go for it.
She’s also incredibly loving. Ever since she was a baby, she’s put her paws around my leg to give me hugs. That’s part of what keeps me going now. That and I feel like, if Era can overcome these physical challenges, I owe it to her and myself to do the same.
It means absolutely everything to me that the donors of Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund, and the members of the Gem City Dog Club are helping with our bills and care. I am drowning in medical bills for us both, and you are my rays of hope.

My world looked bleak, but thanks to you, it hasn't stayed that way. We have a long way to go, but we know you've got our backs. Thank you for giving us our lives back!
