Thanos’ Love Story

But then you people who support Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund came to our rescue; for the first time in a week, I felt like I could breathe.  When the doctor called me back to say there was hope, it was like a weight was lifted.

Thanos has genuinely taught me so much  about patience and unconditional love.

This is going to sound funny but it’s true.  Thanos is the hardest pet I’ve ever had.

He’s horribly anxious.  He wore a thunder jacket for the whole first year we had him.  And the calming collar the vet suggested?  He dug at it so much it wore a hole in his neck.

He’s the most expensive too.  We got him for “free” when my neighbor’s dog had an unintentional litter.  I got him for my son when he was 4 years old.  He immediately named him Thanos because he liked that villain from the Avengers.

But our sweet pup is no villain.

He KNOWS when any of us is struggling and he snuggles in to reassure us.  When my 34 year old friend died recently, he was with me through it all.  Whenever any of us feels like a bad person, he shows us he loves us unconditionally.

He’s amazing with all four of our kids.  My three-year-old is on the spectrum and he doesn’t focus much on others.  But he plays with Thanos.  He gets on his hover board and plays tug with him.  It’s so good for them both!

When he got out of the fence and got hit by a car, I called everywhere trying to find help.  It felt like no one understood; like no one cared.

Yesterday I called the vet to see if they would still waive the fee to put my dog down because I had called everywhere and tried everything I could.

Yes, Thanos is the hardest pet I’ve ever had but he has truly taught me so much in life about patience and unconditional love.  I am so thankful my kids—really all of us—still have him.
