I just say, thank you for keeping me on the job: making my kids feel loved, protecting the newest little one, making Mom and Dad’s lives lighter, and making sure there is joy in the house no matter how hard my family’s challenges get.

Boomer

Hi! I’m Boomer! I’m a lean, mean, fighting machine. Well, I am a lean (only 8 pounds), loving, snuggling machine. I’m orange so I got to be named after the great Boomer Esiason. That’s how much my family thinks of me!

I was a surprise baby of my supposedly-fixed Dad (who my folks call œthe best cat ever) and their new female addition to the family. Actually, my family says I’m totally sweet, quiet and even tempered just like my Dad was.

I know I have a lot to live up to so I’ve worked really hard these last 11 years to come whenever I’m called; to make sure my peeps pay attention to me (even if it means just plopping down in their laps); and to push my head on their cheeks so they know I will take care of them. I’ve got three small humans (8 months, 9 11 years old), two big humans and two other cats in my charge. When my smallest human makes a happy noise, I make a special effort to bound right over to keep the happiness going.

When Mom was petting me the other day, she found a hard lump. She got real quiet and nervous-like. Then she sounded frantic. Making all these phone calls to animal doctors. I heard her tell my Dad that they couldn’t afford to get me looked at and no one would help them. I know they were worried since Mom lost her job and Dad’s hours were cut because of the human sickness. She told the kids that they might not have much more time with me, and I felt sad because everyone was so afraid for me.

Then a miracle occurred! Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund called. The whole mood in my house changed. I heard my mom say she’s so thankful for herself and for the girls. She said, œtheir supporters are helping us to repay Boomer’s love by making sure she’s healthy and not suffering. Thanks to them we can care for her just as we would any of our other children. œ

I just say, thank you for keeping me on the job: making my kids feel loved, protecting the newest little one, making Mom and Dad’s lives lighter, and making sure there is joy in the house no matter how hard my family’s challenges get.
