We’re blessed to have Twin Maples Vets and the supporters of Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund as part of our extended family. Your making the surgery happen was the best news I’ve ever received in my life. Words can’t begin to express what this means to our family, especially to my daughter, Jazzy.
Pumpkin’s Mom

Pumpkin

My friend told me, œYou never pick a cat. A cat picks you. At first glance, it didn’t seem that way for us since we thought we were rescuing pumpkin. After all, she was the only one of my co-worker’s Uncle’s 8 cats that nobody would take. His Uncle was dying of cancer so his kitties needed homes. But Pumpkin was older so most people saw her as œless desirable. We just couldn’t let this beautiful senior cat be euthanized so we agreed to œfoster her (ha)!

As soon as Pumpkin entered our home, we immediately fell in love. We quickly realized we were not going to add more heartache to her life by moving her again. Pumpkin was in her forever home.

She has repaid us since the day she moved in”with cuddles purring talking (she has whole conversations with us!). Especially with my daughter! Pumpkin arrived and instantly became my daughter’s therapy cat. She is with her all the time, laying on her when she gets anxious and being her shadow day and night. In fact, since Pumpkin is on the job, my daughter has been able to stop taking medication for her anxiety! She says, œWhenever I’m overwhelmed with noise or with school. with her being a senior cat, she helps me stay calm since she’s typically very relaxed. She’s very sweet lovable, and she makes me very happy. She’s always very content, even when I can’t be, and that helps me a lot.

A few weeks ago, we noticed Pumpkin’s front foot turning out more and more and getting swollen. We just figured her roly-poly self had missed a jump and hurt her foot. But she needed to be seen by a vet! This was an unexpected expense but part of the deal of taking in a senior cat. That visit resulted in worries of much bigger problems. Soon the worst was confirmed”Pumpkin had bone cancer in her foot! Her leg needed amputated immediately to prevent the cancer from spreading!

Our current finances couldn’t support this need, but she was now part of our family! We had pledged to help her live her best life for the remainder of her years.

Pumpkin came out of the anesthesia purring. She came back to us cuddling and telling us all about her adventure. Now she’s regaining her balance and getting around amazingly well. She has planted herself back on my daughter’s chest. And both she and our family again feel all is right with the world. Thank you for giving our girl the opportunity to enjoy more years with our family who adores her!
