Pepper & T’Challa's Love Story

If you donate to ERDF, we want you to know you truly changed our lives. I thought I would have to watch Pepper die on our kitchen floor. Instead, I was reminded that even in hard times, there are people out there with hearts of gold. We are forever grateful. God Bless you all!

A Message from Pepper & T’Challa's Family...

It all started when my friend found a beautiful blue Pitbull wandering down the street. Knowing my love for the Pitbull breed, my friend asked if we could take her in until we found her home. We searched everywhere for her owner. Three weeks later, my fiancé & I looked at each other and asked, “Is she home now?”. Then, within a couple of weeks, we were shocked to discover she was pregnant!

We scrambled to learn and prepare in every way we could for Pepper’s puppies, but the timing wasn’t great. My fiance lost his job due to COVID, but Pepper was now family. She’s so well-mannered and such a gentle soul. Pepper and my 4-year-old son bonded immediately; she loves to be right next to him. She even goes in & watches him sleep. She has also been a daily dose of God’s love that helps me with my anxiety disorder. Pepper has a smile that can light up a room with unconditional love!

Pepper has filled a void in our lives that we didn’t even know was there. She has reminded us to be trusting and loving, no matter the challenge. I believe dogs are the embodiment of God’s unconditional love and God has blessed us again.

When it came time for Pepper to have her puppies, I was ready! I even built her a birthing pool and had a Vet Tech friend on standby! A few hours had passed after beginning to labor her first puppy when we realized something was wrong and our sweet girl and her puppies were in trouble. We rushed her to the Emergency Room but only had enough money for the consultation. They removed the first puppy that was blocking the birth canal, but we couldn’t afford the surgery to tend to the rest of the litter. So, we were sent home with instructions to continue to help her labor the remaining deceased puppies. Pepper was in agony as she continued to try and whelp, while I laid next to her fearful that we would lose her too. For hours, I placed my hand on her belly where the puppies use to wiggle and move. I prayed for God to breathe life into her and suddenly I felt movement.

I was shocked! Is a puppy alive?! I rushed to call the ER who then told me to bring her in for an emergency c-section with the cost covered by Ellie’s Rainy Day fund. I never even knew organizations like ERDF existed! Our prayers were answered! Then God smiled on us again. After 18 hours of labor, at 1am, the surgeon called to say Pepper was doing great and so was her puppy! We cried tears of joy! The nightmare we were living in ended in a miracle!

If you donate to ERDF, we want you to know you truly changed our lives. I thought I would have to watch Pepper die on our kitchen floor. Instead, I was reminded that even in hard times, there are people out there with hearts of gold. We are forever grateful. God Bless you all!
