Scarlet's Love Story

I lost my Mom last Mother’s Day. She adored Scarlet! Now when Scarlet cuddles me or stays by my side, it feels like it’s a part of my Mom still with me. We’re just so grateful that you’re giving Scarlet back some quality of life. Thank you for saving my daughter’s and our other dog’s best friend. Thank you to everyone that donates for keeping our family whole.

Scarlet's Mom

In Scarlet's Words...

Hello! I’m Scarlet. I wear the name with pride as a member of a family of big Ohio State Buckeye fans. OK, so truthfully my favorite part of game days is cleaning up the snacks that fall on the floor. But that still makes me a supporter.

I love hearing the story of how I got to be the “original baby of the family”. See, at first Dad said “no dog” but that only lasted two months. Then right before Christmas six years ago my folks visited five shelters with no luck but then ended up in a pet store where they “fell in love with (my) sweet face.” The feeling was mutual so I crawled up in Mom’s lap and kept giving her kisses until they took me home.

I’ve heard them call me the perfect apartment dog, I guess cuz I’m sweet and cuddly and just lie around. Well, I might have one little flaw—I love to chew on things. In fact, I once ate an entire cactus. But that’s another story.

Now I have important duties though. I help take care of my 2.5 year old human sister. I take her toys out of the toybox for her. And I always check on her when she takes naps. Oh, and I bolster the confidence of our newest member of the family, Brutus (another Bulldog like me!). We’re the best of buds. I show him how to be a good apartment dog too.

But I’ve been getting more and more distracted from my job. My ears are driving me crazy!! I’m digging at them all the time, even though my folks have put me on lots of different medicines and even had the vet put me under to clean them with a special solution. Nothing seems to help. When people pet me if they touch my ears I yelp in pain. I don’t want them to think I’m unfriendly, but it HURTS.

I overheard my folks saying they didn’t know if it was fair for me to have to live like this. My doctor talked to them about this surgery to remove the canals in my really bad ear. My folks felt terrible but they just couldn’t afford it. We were stuck. Then the vet contacted Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund. ERDF said they knew their supporters would want to help a family that was as bonded as ours. They called me an “essential” member of the family.

So now I’m scheduled for the surgery! It’s giving us all hope! I won’t have to keep suffering and I can go back to focusing on giving the love and protection that every member of my family needs!
