“I may have trouble speaking due to my cancer, but I want you to hear how grateful I am to have the help of Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund and all your people who care about how important Monkey is to me. It is a blessing from God that thanks to you I still have my precious Monkey. I can’t put into words how happy and grateful I am to receive this funding for my baby. My companion.”

I went through some very tough times when I was recovering from cancer of the head and neck. With all of the pain and struggles, I became very depressed. I happened to be at a pet store one day when they were having an adoption event and there he was! When I saw Monkey, then 4 years old, it was love at first sight! Ever since that day, we’ve been inseparable.
On bad days, Monkey gives me a reason to get out of bed. Sometimes she’s my only reason to carry on through chemo, radiation, and surgery. Through all this, I’ve nearly lost my voice, but Monkey hears me loud and clear. He knows when I’m struggling to breathe or am going to have a seizure. He stays right by my side and he lets the family know too that something is wrong. My boy is very vocal and speaks for me when I cannot.
My daughter is not wrong when she says that I love my cat more than people most of the time. The unconditional love of my Monkey gives me the hope and strength to carry on.
So, when Monkey began to have seizures himself, I was beside myself. I feared for his life. As you probably know, emergency veterinary treatment is expensive. This situation was life and death. I would do anything for my Monkey. But with being on a fixed income, and my medical bills and all, I had nowhere to get funding. Thank God the ER staff saw how special my boy and I are to each other and reached out to Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund for help.
They believe Monkey was suffering from a chemical toxicity, possibly from flea medication. He required hospitalization and like I said, my social security checks can’t cover unexpected emergency costs like this.
Thankfully, Monkey is expected to make a full recovery and will soon be back to waiting by the front door when I return home. He will be sharing his opinion about how long I was gone and asking where his new toy is. He will be bullying my daughter’s chihuahua when they come to visit. And most thankfully, he will resume keeping guard over me through good days, and especially bad ones.
I may have trouble speaking due to my cancer, but I want you to hear how grateful I am to have the help of Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund and all your people who care about how important Monkey is to me. It is a blessing from God that, thanks to you, I still have my precious Monkey. I can’t put into words how happy and grateful I am to receive this funding for my baby. My companion.
