Thank goodness for the donors of Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund! My granddaughter lives on Social Security Disability. It took all she and we had to get that surgery done. Without you, Mochi wouldn’t have the rehab sessions and underwater treadmill that are her only chance to be able to walk again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving Mochi and Chelsea a chance. We ALL thank you for supporting their very special love.
Mochi's Grandma
Mochi was about to start “Trick Dog” classes--after mastering her SIXTH Advanced Obedience class--when she suddenly lost the use of her hind legs. She was in terrible pain. She became incontinent.
This dog that had spent every day for months training with my granddaughter, Chelsea.
This dog who got my granddaughter interacting with people. She loved taking Mochi to training. Who helped Chelsea develop a sense of belonging (She even became an Honorary Member of the Dog Club)
This dog : Who taught her responsibility.
Who showed her how to love and be loved. Who helps her to get calm.
Who is ALWAYS by her side.
You see, my granddaughter, because she is on the autism spectrum, has difficulty connecting with humans. But with her service dog Mochi by her side, she can go into places, like Walmart, that have unpredictable contact with people. Heck, Chelsea not only volunteered for ongoing contact at the Dog Club. She even became a member of the group! It’s been amazing to see, with Mochi’s support, what Chelsea can do!
It’s great that Mochi is basically the opposite of Chelsea when it comes to interaction with people. Mochi is obsessed with getting every person she sees to pay attention to her. It’s hilarious watching her. You can just see that dog planning her strategy to get some loving from every oncoming stranger. What a great way for my granddaughter to meet folks without building too much anxiety.
Chelsea was crushed when her soulmate could no longer do these things. But she has made the adjustment. She learned to diaper her pup, give her medications, do home exercise sessions with her. It makes me proud and brings a tear to my eye. While Mochi started out as Chelsea’s service dog, now Chelsea is Mochi’s service human.
We were all so scared for Mochi until she came successfully through the surgery for her ruptured disc. So far, she is still struggling to take her first steps. But she and Chelsea will get through this together.
