To all of you who donate to Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund, your help means the world to me. When Skye was diagnosed at 12 weeks old with a heart murmur, I was told she’d never make it past 2 years old. But we needed each other and we fought to stay together. Now here she is at age 7. With a miracle on the horizon thanks to you. When I took her this time to the emergency vet coughing and working to breathe, I never guessed they were going to discover she had a heart condition that could be CURED! You are giving my precious girl a chance to run and play and be a normal high energy Australian Shepherd. No more gasping to breathe! You are giving me the hope that someday she will meet my future children. She LOVES kids. You are putting my family back together. Thank you for making this miracle happen.
Skye's Mom
I met my Mom when she was 15 years old, and I was 6 weeks old. I was living in some pretty rough conditions. I was embarrassed that I was infested with fleas and covered in my own poop. But you know what? Somehow none of that mattered to Mom. I rolled over and gazed into her eyes, and we fell in love instantly. She saved me from that awful place. But I knew we met because I was going to save her too.
And I’ve always tried my best to do that. Mom got me originally to be her emotional support dog. See, she has autism and ADHD, which makes the world a pretty overwhelming place for her sometimes. I understood because I have felt the same.
So when she cries or gets overstimulated, I push myself onto her lap and lick her face all over. I shove my snout in her hands too to stop her from picking at her nails. And of course, first thing when she comes home from work, I hop onto the couch and throw one paw on each of her shoulders. I’ve heard Mom say that when she’s having a hard day at work, all that gets her through is knowing she’ll be coming home to one of my “welcome home” hugs.
You know, originally I was supposed to be trained as a full-fledged service dog.
But at my first vet visit when I was a young pup, the vet heard a heart murmur. “Official” or not, I know Mom needs me and that I make her life better every day. As she does mine. We are a family!
