Lilly Rose's Love Story

When our vet told us there were people who donate to Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund so that families wouldn’t have to make heartbreaking decisions, we were amazed. You have given a young dog the chance to have a life—a normal, active life. You have given a young girl the gift of continuing to grow up surrounded by her dog’s love. And you have given us a reminder of the goodness of humanity. You are a Godsend!
A Message from Lilly's Family
We give our granddaughter our entire focus. She's twelve years old, and has had a tough life. She first came to us because her parents couldn't take care of her since they were drug and alcohol addicts. She's dealt with a lot of chaos bouncing between us and her birth parents for years. Thank God the court awarded us custody and we can finally take care of her fully. But, sometimes, she is still anxious and unsure what and who she can count on.
She had been pleading for a dog practically from the beginning. We've lost four elder dogs before and we don't really like going through it again. However, our girl persisted as only a child can. We decided it might help her—to have that unconditional love that was all hers.
And help it has! You should have seen them when they met. It was love at first sight! The puppy barreled right over and started licking our girl’s face. Our girl was giggling and holding her close. It was magical. She named her Lilly Rose because “they are pretty names, just like her.”

This dog is just different. She cuddles with our granddaughter and sleeps on her bed. Our girl loves to teach her tricks, and Lilly's indeed a fast-learner. It's the funniest dog we have ever seen. She brings us her bowl when she is hungry, spends lots of time at the window by the back of our couch, being the lookout for goats, squirrels, the neighbor’s cats. You name it.
We've seen and we've felt that Lilly gives our girl a sense of responsibility and purpose. Our granddaughter is aware that Lilly depends on her. She is aware of her affection for her, and they are each other's constant companions.
One unlucky day, Lilly broke her leg while jumping off the bed, leaving our girl inconsolable. We were unable to pay for Lilly's operation with our retirement income and due to a past vet bill that we were still making payments on. We were trying to figure out if Lilly would eventually be ok with dragging her left hind leg for the rest of her life.

When our vet told us there were people who donate to Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund so that families wouldn’t have to make those kind of heartbreaking decisions, we were amazed. You have given a young dog the chance to have a life—a normal, active life. You have given a young girl the gift of continuing to grow up surrounded by her dog’s love. And you have given us a reminder of the goodness of humanity. You are a Godsend. Thank you.
