Lila

“It felt like the end of the world when I had to give her to my cousin. And then after my happiness at getting her back, to have her get so sick and need surgery was terrifying. Your people are such a blessing! Without you, I wouldn’t have my furry lap warmer, my constant companion—my inspiration for living. Thank you for blessing me with the healthy return of my baby.”

Lila

It was the craziest thing. My husband and I were driving down Limestone St. Cars were speeding as usual. Somebody up ahead swerved and then I saw it! A tiny pair of ears between all the cars. We’ve never gone into traffic to rescue an animal before but it was clear she was soon going to be a pancake.

Once we had her, we put out a massive search for her family. But meanwhile, off and on she was standing real stiff and still. It looked like seizures, but since my husband’s recent 4 month hospitalization on life support, we didn’t have a dime to get her to a vet.

Then we found her Dad. Turns out he was forced to give Lila to his cousin in order to be allowed in his new government housing. He couldn’t afford to get her the required vaccinations and spaying. He admitted he’d been crying every day, and apparently so had Lila. She’d finally escaped to try to find him.

That’s when our new vet reached out to Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund. Their kind donors paid for the shots and spaying. The seizures thankfully were found to be due to Lila’s terror so they disappeared as soon as she got back with her Dad!

But then there’s MORE! Two days after their happy reunion, Lila fell deathly ill. She was rushed to the ER where it was discovered her abdomen was septic! A very complicated and costly lifesaving surgery was immediately undertaken, thanks to more funding from Ellie’s.

Today we are visiting those two. Lila is running circles of joy around us all. Who knew this adventure would give us a whole new extended family!

NOTE FROM WALTER, LILA’S DAD:

My daughter gave Lila to me at 3 months old, since I was grieving so bad from losing my previous chihuahua to old age. She became my world! As soon as I wake up, she brings a smile to my face. She cuddles me constantly. She wags her tail so hard it looks like it’s going to fall off. I’m disabled but having her makes me get up so she can go to the bathroom. Without her I’d probably be in a nursing home now.

It felt like the end of the world when I had to give her to my cousin. And then after my happiness at getting her back, to have her get so sick and need surgery was terrifying. Your people are such a blessing! Without you, I wouldn’t have my furry lap warmer, my constant companion—my inspiration for living. Thank you for blessing me with the healthy return of my baby.
