Fancy Mae's Love Story

I can’t thank you enough for helping me and my baby girl. My recovery is challenging but lying with Fancy Mae leaning against me makes it so much easier. My husband and I have helped others in their times of need. It’s very unexpected to be on the other side and for our family to need or receive all this help. I will be forever grateful.Thank you from Fancy Mae and from our whole family.

FANCY MAE'S MOM

In Fancy Mae's Words...

Hi. My name is Fancy Mae. My name fits me well, as you can see by my adorable pictures. I just turned 1 years old. I was born in the Hamilton County Shelter since my Mom was pregnant when they brought her in.

When my human Mom saw my photo online she just knew I’d be just what she needed. See she has this thing called malignant melanoma so she has to have lots of surgeries and stuff. It’s hard and it’s painful. But when we met, we attached to each other immediately! She held me and cried all the way home after she adopted me. She calls me her “baby girl”. I heard somebody else call me her “cancer support dog”. Call me whatever you want. I just know we were meant to be together.

Mom was about to go in for a big surgery where they’d remove a tumor around the lymph nodes in her groin/ hip. I really wanted to do my best snuggling. But I was sick. First my legs swelled all up and hurt. That got diagnosed as Shar Pei Fever. Whoever heard of that? But our regular vet got that under control.

Then, my eye started hurting A LOT. I couldn’t concentrate on my Mom like I wanted. I felt too awful. The vet said I needed to see a fancy doctor—an ophthalmologist.

I overheard Mom and Dad talking. With all Mom’s medical bills, they couldn’t afford a vet specialist too. Mom was so upset. Me too. Her surgery was scheduled for the end of the week and I needed to give her the cuddles that would help her get better.

Once Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund got involved, things started moving fast. Mom had surgery on a Friday. I had my eye appointment while Mom was in the hospital; then surgery to fix the ulcer in my eye; then we were both in the family room in Mom’s hospital bed snuggling and getting better together!
