A Message From Drax's Dad & the family who can't imagine life without him:
Thanks to you, we get years more with our best friend. Thanks to you, our children still have the unconditional love that has been such a consistent, huge part of their lives. Thanks to you, our three-year-old won’t suffer the heartache of losing “her” dog.
From the moment I met my college friend’s Weimaraner, I knew I had to have one of my own. So years later when my wife and I were ready to adopt another dog, that’s who we looked for. For the kids. For our other dog who was now without a buddy. For me.
We didn’t know it then, but it was mostly for the baby growing in my wife’s belly.
Drax joined our family and immediately began bonding with our unborn daughter. He laid his head on my wife’s belly every chance he got. And once she was born, he was right beside her, snuggling her from day one.
This dog, who was supposed to be for me, clearly had other ideas. That baby is now almost three, and she continues to be “his person”. Weimaraners on the whole aren’t big cuddlers. But Drax breaks that mold with his little girl. And with any of our five kids when they are sick. Our Drax is very in-tune with the emotions in our household.
Needless to say, we all rely on Drax for our day‑to‑day emotional stability. So when he went in for routine dental care and the vet discovered that a life‑threatening condition from three years ago had returned, panic set in for all of us.
Drax’s past hernia repair had failed. That meant that his intestines and part of his liver had slid back up into the sack around his heart.
Fatal if not repaired immediately!
But we had spent a large portion of our savings to have it fixed before. Not to mention caring for him through the long post-op following this major surgery. How could this have happened? We just broke down and cried.
It’s a struggle to put into words how much your donors and your organization mean to us. This might sound cliche, but you mean everything. Thanks to you, we get years more with our best friend. Thanks to you, our children still have the unconditional love that has been such a consistent, huge part of their lives. Thanks to you, our three-year-old won’t suffer the heartache of losing “her” dog. And finally, thanks to you, we all get to know there is still good in the world.
Thank you for supporting our family in our time of need.
