Toothless J’s Love Story

A message from the Vet Clinic:

Toothless was just hospitalized at his RP for an obstruction earlier today and reblocked. Owners found him as a kitten after he was abandoned because "black cats are bad luck" and he was getting beat up by other outdoor cats. Now he is his mom's best friend, especially since her husband is active military. They were absolutely heartbroken to have to consider euthanasia because all of their Care Credit went to his first hospitalization, but they didn't want him to be in pain. When he got approved, they started sobbing their thanks.
~ Thank you from Toothless' family and everyone here at the clinic who knows he can be saved!

Hi, my name is Toothless.
My life started out living next door to my forever family. It was tough over there. My original family didn’t seem to like me much. They didn’t protect me from fleas. (I itched and hurt!) They fed me big adult chunks of kibble, even though I was only 5 weeks old and couldn’t really swallow them. And they let their husky throw me around.

I didn’t know it at first, but it was my lucky day when they moved and took all my littermates but left me behind. They said I was black so I was “bad luck”. From that time on, my now mom, dad and I have taken good care of one another.

My family KNOWS they are loved.
By the time you finish reading this, I hope you will know you are not alone—you are loved. That’s what I do. That’s why I exist. I LOVE to cuddle people. All people. The nice people taking care of me here at the hospital told my mom I’m “a lover” cuz I love on everyone.

That’s my superpower. It seems to be what people need. Take my mom. She’s gone through lots of moves. And long chunks of time when dad’s not around. She calls them “deployments”. Heck, one time we didn’t see dad for over a year.

And there was that long time where everybody had to stay in their houses. During that time, Mom called herself a “new military spouse”. She was far away from home and dad was gone. I could tell she was lonely and scared. It was just her and me. So I cuddled her, made lots of “biscuits” on her, and brought her LOTS of toys.

That got her through all of it.
Oh yes, and I can always make her smile when I’m her “Bongo Boy”. I throw myself on the floor on my side right by her. And she thumps my belly. I love it! And it pulls her out of being anxious or sad—every time!

Now here we are, six years later. We were going along, having a good life together. All of a sudden it HURT to try to pee. Nothing was coming out! I wanted to keep being a lover but I couldn’t. It hurt too much to even move.

I had to go to this place where the people were nice, but I didn't like what they did to me. AND what they did the first time, didn't work! They were gonna have to did it again. I just wanted the hurt to go away. Mom and dad were frantic when they were told I had to go through it a second time.

Here’s what Mom said:
I was crying and loving on our baby. I knew I was telling him goodbye. My heart was beyond broken. I just kept thinking, it’s not Toothless’s fault that he got ill and we couldn't afford to save him. I tried everything. Nothing worked. Receiving your financial support is the biggest blessing I’ve ever had in my life... truly. The fact that my finances stood in the way of his life broke me. I’m beyond grateful to the donors of Ellie’s fund.

My boy is only 6 so I can’t wait to spend his long cuddly life with him. I’m appreciating every day I get with him and it was all because of you.
