Prada may have needed rescuing, but in so many ways…she rescued us too.
It takes a community to save a life….and in this case, both lives were changed forever.
When I rescued Prada, I had no idea how far the little ripple of that one act would reach. Prada wasn’t just another puppy in need. She was ill, fragile, and clinging to hope. Even through Prada’s pain, she still had a lot of love to give.
The day I met Prada, I gently lifted her from her crate… and without hesitation, she threw her head against my chest. It felt like that hug was meant just for me. In that quiet, tender moment, my heart melted. She didn’t have to say a word. She was asking for help and I knew she had chosen me.
I was working my shift as a vet tech in the ER. I was grieving the loss of my uncle whom I lost to cancer just that morning. I felt hollow and alone. But here came this puppy who was massively in pain from a prolapsed rectum.
Her people didn’t want to pay to help her. There had been enough death in my life that day. So I offered to adopt her.
Prada filled the emptiness of my grief. She has reminded me that love can still exist even in the midst of sorrow. Her presence has brought me comfort with a purpose, and the quiet kind of healing that only a deeply connected soul can offer.
Prada may have needed rescuing, but in so many ways…she rescued us too. My 12-year-old daughter fell instantly in love with Prada. Having a new best friend is helping her through her sorrow as well.
I want to thank all of you donors. I had to use my available funds to travel to my Uncle’s funeral. I couldn’t have afforded this sweet puppy’s major surgery. Thanks to you, our new baby is still with us.
My daughter feels more able to cope, and nursing this pup makes me feel more whole.
