Pixie’s Love Story

Pixie Squirrel Hunting (1)

"sometimes, even love needs a lifeline. The people who give money make sure stories like ours don’t end too soon. Dogs like me get to keep doing butt wiggles. And moms like mine keep waking up to their reasons to smile."

I am the proud bus supervisor for my kids. You might think that’s strange behavior for a dog—to escort my kids to the bus in the morning, and be there waiting for them in the afternoon—but I take my job to care for my
family VERY seriously!

From the time I was just six weeks old, I knew who my humans were. At first, I would crawl under a fence just to be with my human mom. I would follow her everywhere on wobbly little puppy paws….and I never stopped.

By the time I was two years old, life had already tried to take me down a hard road. My first person was going to leave me on the streets. But my mom… she wouldn’t let that happen. She brought me home, and I’ve been by her side ever since.

She calls me her four-legged child. I may not have been born to her but we were made for each other. We have been through many adventures in life together. I have been there for most of her 57 surgeries, every health struggle and all of the days that she spends in the wheelchair.

Yes, I am even able to be in the hospital with her. Right next to her. I heard other humans say that I am my mom’s service animal, whatever that means. It doesn’t matter to me as long as I am with my mom. She says I’m her reason to get up in the morning!

I know when she’s sad. That’s when I climb up to cuddle her to remind her she’s not alone. When she needs to smile? I do my happy butt wiggle and my silly little “Pixie Shuffle.” (Hey, everybody needs a routine before they poop, right?) I may even talk back sometimes, just to make her laugh.

When I had to have emergency surgery to take out an infection that would’ve killed me, my doctor’s told my mom that she wasn’t allowed to be in the room with me while I recovered. So mom got creative and asked if she could Facetime me. That is exactly what she did.

I am told that my mom happy cried when she heard me snort. She knew at that moment that I would be okay. We’ve never been apart more than 12 hours, because she’s my whole world, just like I am hers.

That’s why Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund matters. Because sometimes, even love needs a lifeline. The people who give money make sure stories like ours don’t end too soon. Dogs like me get to keep doing butt wiggles. And moms like mine keep waking up to their reasons to smile.

Forever hers, Pixie
