Have you ever had something wrong with your leg?
Something that felt like a lightening bolt of pain? Something that made you think twice before moving?
That was me for MONTHS. My poor mom was doing everything…meds, treatments—heck, she took me to 3 different vets. Not my favorite thing, but if it was going to make the pain go away, I was up for it.
Then my original vet who’d retired came in special to see me. He told us my knee was torn. My mom just cried. She’d do anything for me, just like I would for her. But she didn’t have the money it would take to fix me. After all this were we going to have to say goodbye?!
I felt horrible to be putting her through this. I sure wasn’t her “lucky Penny” now. I always loved it when she called me that. My name is Penny, by the way.
How was I going to lay up against her when she was having a bad day? Well OK, I do that for good days too—but that just makes them better. I’m half of the “love sandwich” that my dog sister and I create so mom knows she’s safe and always loved.
What would my best friend Gracie (the cat ) do without me? First, I chase her. Then she chases me. Then there’s some pouncing and rolling about. It’s all part of the fun. It always makes mom smile!
Bottom line? Mom says that me, my dog and cat siblings, and her tiny human (she calls her the 3‑year‑old granddaughter) are the only real joy in her life. And honestly… I think we’re doing a pretty great job.
