A message from Mom:
Seeing him relax in comfort after the pain he was in gives us more joy than we can
express. We are grateful to every one of you. We can’t thank you enough.
Last month we lost our sweet cat of 16 years to oral cancer. It was an extremely difficult journey. We were heartbroken.
As we were losing our girl, we saw a Facebook posting of a cat whose owner had passed away. A kind neighbor posted him in hopes of finding the kitty a new family. We had seen posts about him earlier in the week before we had to put our sweet Teenager down.
After seeing him posted again with no one agreeing to take him in, we decided we had extra room and love to give to a new kitty. No one yet knew the medical issues he was facing. But we are glad that we got there in time to get him the help he so desperately needed.
We named him Ichigo, after one of the characters from Bleach, my husband's favorite anime. He is docile and friendly, and a great video game companion to my husband after a hard day’s work. It turns out he was suffering with something called Megacolon. That meant he was unable to push hardened stool through his stretched out intestinal tract. He was suffering with an impaction, which caused him to vomit, become increasingly weak, and resist eating. It’s hard to think about the pain he was in.
We had just spent a lot of money in the month and a half leading up to taking Ichigo in. The emergency vet visits and medicine for our now late cat, Teenager, were rough. I spent time off work to give Teeny extra care and try to keep her comfortable as long as possible. My husband and I work hard but still live paycheck to paycheck. We extended our finances as far as we could for sweet Ichigo and put bills on credit because we could not bear the thought of him being put down when he had a chance. But we still weren’t going to make it.
Every donor to Ellie’s Rainy Day Fund means so very much to us. If we hadn’t taken Ichigo in, he would have faced a very painful death outside all by himself. With your funding, he was able to get care at the emergency vet and here at home with us. He's doing better every day and we have hope that he can look forward to a happy and full life ahead. You gave him—and us—that gift.
